In fairy tales we often find descriptions of enchanted forests, with sublime landscapes covered in mist that adds mystery to the place. The Fanal Forest, on the island of Madeira, is the place where imagination and reality come together, the place where fairy tale forests come to life and you have the feeling that behind every tree a princess will appear and behind every fern an elf or a gnome. A truly storybook place. Entering a forest always generates a certain concern, mystery and even fear, regardless of its lushness, location or nature. I have always been attracted to that feeling of not knowing what I am going to find behind the next tree.
